comedianinfilm-ssNitehawk highlights the American comedian with our most extensive program to date, COMEDIANS IN FILM.

From one night stands to political demands and from laughter to tears, Nitehawk’s Comedians in Film explores how the right to offend (and to be offended) has changed in popular culture throughout the years by taking a closer look at the comedians who straddle the stage and screen. Screening over thirty films and featuring comics that range from the iconic Richard Pryor and Robin Williams to groundbreaking newcomers like Amy Schumer and Jenny Slate, the series shows the many roles the American stand up comic has assumed in cinema over the past forty years as we wonder: does this comedy translates today? Is it dated? Is it relevant? Did you laugh? Are you offended?

All summer long, our favorite provocative comedians will grace Nitehawk’s screens with the following curated sections: Stand Up and Stand Up CompanionWomen in ComedyThe Serious Comedian, and Late Nite. Special Events include Perry Strong introducing Harlem Nights, Negin Farsad introducing Comedian, and a Booze & Books 35mm screening of The World According to Garp. If that isn’t enough, we’ll also have documentaries and other “just because” favorites. Concluding Comedians in Film is a weekend of short films with Kickstarter and the Brooklyn Comedy Festival. More to come so please stay tuned for more announcements!
