Candy-coated horror films from the late 1990s
Nitehawk delves into the overlooked yet commercially successful horror films of the late 1990s with our Valentine’s midnite series, Death Candy. All of these films continue the tropes established in the 1980s American slasher films (teens, sex, a mysterious killer, and lots of screams) but do so in their own self-aware way; a way that we can now appreciate more than ever for what they are. DEATH CANDY.
The Death Candy series features Wes Craven’s meta-fest Scream, the teenage-accident-revenge horror I Know What You Did Last Summer, the killer modern folklore in Urban Legend, and the death defying franchise starter, Final Destination. All presented on 35mm.
